The Third International Research Project Competition for University and School Students took place on December 5, 2025, at the Department of Foreign Languages. This year’s competition brought together over 130 participants, including first-year students from the department’s bachelor’s and specialist degree programs, as well as students from five schools in Yekaterinburg: Municipal Autonomous Educational Institution Secondary School No. 25, Municipal Autonomous Educational Institution Gymnasium No. 40, Municipal Autonomous Educational Institution Secondary School No. 63, Municipal Autonomous Educational Institution Gymnasium No. 45, and “Open School.”
Students and schoolchildren independently developed project topics and worked on them for two months. The results of their efforts were showcased at the competition, including presentations of key achievements, video reports, brochures, interactive maps, websites, chatbots, and glossaries. Thus, their knowledge of a foreign language was reflected in the digital products of their project activities.
O. V. Tomberg, Director of the Department, noted the wide variety of topics, ranging from interdisciplinary connections between linguistics and other fields of knowledge to the translation of films and video games. A total of 23 projects were presented.
The competition’s hosts and volunteers were students from the “Military Translation” track of group UGI-154004, ensuring strict adherence to the presentation schedule. Master’s students from the “Interpreting, Intercultural Communication, and Cognitive Linguistics” program provided simultaneous translation for the entire event.
Following the evaluation of results, the winners will be awarded diplomas.
School participants shared their impressions of the competition:
“I want to share positive impressions of the English-language project competition with the participation of UrFU students! Our students have participated in it more than once — many have presented for the second or even third time, which speaks to the high level of the event. The organization was top-notch: everything went smoothly, coherently, and in a friendly atmosphere. The students gained valuable experience, practiced their English, and interacted with university students. Many thanks for such a useful and inspiring event!” — Irina Vladimirovna Saburova, English teacher, Municipal Autonomous Educational Institution Secondary School No. 63.
“An excellent event! The projects were diverse and creative, showing the participants’ hard work. The atmosphere was lively and inspiring. Thank you to the organizers for the opportunity to practice the language in such an interesting format. We eagerly await the next meeting!” — Anastasia Sergeevna Bratseva, English teacher, Municipal Autonomous Educational Institution Gymnasium No. 45.
We thank everyone for participating and look forward to new ideas next year!
