On the initiative of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, 2026 was proclaimed the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia. Students of the Department of Foreign Languages of UrFU in the framework of project workshops study cultural codes of various nationalities living in the Urals to determine the foundations of long-term intercultural communication.
One of the projects being implemented is “From Urals to Hungary: common origin as a basis for cultural dialogue”. The aim of the project is to establish tools for modern intercultural communication based on common roots of Hungarians and peoples of the Urals. Students study the history of Finno-Ugric peoples in the Urals, myths, legends and historical texts, migration routes and conduct comparative analysis of cultural codes to create recommendations for inter-national dialogue. The students are planning to create a multimedia cultural and historical file that will allow them to become more familiar with the Hungarian identity.
The Hungarian side, represented by Mihály Gruber, consul of the Consulate General of Hungary in Yekaterinburg, expressed readiness to meet with students to give students an opportunity to ask questions about the project. Working meeting of Mihály Груберa, Aleksandra Kovaleva, head of the Department of Foreign Languages of UrFU and Lyudmila Zapevalova, associate professor of the Department of Foreign Languages of UrFU, was held on April 17 in the territory of the Consulate General of Hungary in Yekaterinburg.
